Service class time component

Hi everyone,

In order to analize system performance I tried to discover how time is spent within my database system.

According to the documentation, TOTAL_RQST_TIME=TOTAL_WAIT_TIME + TOTAL_*_PROC_TIME.

By querying the service class table function (MON_GET_SERVICE_CLASS) I'm disappointed by the fact that there is a big difference between total_rqst_time and the sum of all other values.

It seems that with "normal" DML statements these two values are quite…

Accessing Oracle, Netezza, and Microsoft Excel from DB2 z/OS

I regularly see people ask how to access data on UNIX or Windows from apps on IBM's z/OS (mainframe) operating system.  However, I haven't been able to find anything that discusses the options.  Therefore, I'm using this post to provide the basics about one solution - using IBM's InfoSphere Federation Server as an interface.

This solution is for people running DB2 on z/OS.  It's probably best discussed with a simple example and a picture.  So, my example is - let's say you…

A Fast Way to Get Started with Q Replication for DB2 Active-Active Databases

As you may know, IBM made two-site Q Replication available in DB2 Advanced ESE and InfoSphere Warehouse at no additional cost. The main reason was to give DB2 a built-in solution for active-active databases. Since a lot of DB2 people are new to Q Replication, I wanted to show you how easy it is to give it a try and set up a configuration. In a previous post, I described…

New developerWorks Article About DB2 AESE's Federation and Q Replication

I get a lot of questions about what's included in DB2 Advance ESE where data federation (virtualization) and replication technologies are concerned.  Some of them are simple licensing questions about what you get for no extra charge.  However, many more are about basic functionality. developerWorks helps out in both cases.  For the questions about function, there's…
