Virtual Conference, Data Studio Chat, FYI - I also blog at

This post a melange of several topics ...

1. Anyone who attends conferences knows that attendance at most events has been dwindling this year. While there may be no substitute for in-person interactions, many online events are enjoying greater popularity, and some are coming close to simulating real-world conferences with booths, 1-1 chats, etc. The Data in Action Virtual Conference next week is a good example and is worth checking out. If you haven't registered yet, check out the… Continue

DB2CE Auto commit OFF

Migration to DB2 9.7 and compression

We migrated warehouse to DB2 9.7, because we heard lot of success stories related to DB2 9.7 compression. I was quite sceptic about it first, but after hearing more reports we finally decided to migrate too (from DB2 v8).

Data compression

We experimented a bit with partitioning tables (not DPF) and how partition size affects compression ratio. Answer is simple - larger partition size is better. Compression ratio increased slowly until it reached its maximum at about… Continue

Some strange issue in Redirected restore... part-1

Ok so here is the scenario..

- Have database1 in db2inst1

- Took a offline (cold) backup of database1

- did redirected restore to clone database1 in to database2 in same instance

- set tablespace containers, worked just fine , no errors.

- roll forward database to end of logs and complete , worked fine no errors

Now problem starts. When app folks told me they are missing some data, which was simply not visible to me because I did cold backup and then… Continue

The number of client connections is already equal to the maximum value defined in the system configuration file

If one or more applications are required to run concurrently, increase the value for max_connections. The new value takes effect after the next successful database manager start. If the value for max_connections is larger than the value for max_coordagents, the concentrator feature is turned on.

Priority of agents (AGENTPRI) = SYSTEM

Max number of existing agents (MAXAGENTS) = 400

Agent pool size (NUM_POOLAGENTS) = 200(calculated)

Initial number of agents in pool… Continue
