Hi, Brian, the simple answer is no. The longer answer is that the SQL Capture program needs to write to tables in the source database. For example, it updates its progress in its metadata (control) tables. More importantly, it stages changed data in…

At last year's IOD conference, I learned more about two recently announced JDBC tools that had piqued my curiousity: - InfoSphere Federation Server 9.7's "JDBC wrapper" - IMS 11's Universal JDBC driver Why so curious? It's simple. The new JDBC wr…

Good info. I have another question you may know. With v9.7 fixpack 1 and a HADR readable standby database. Can we run SQL replication using the read-only standby as the source/capture server and apply it elsewhere , like a DW?

Transforming Data as You Replicate

When replicating data, a very common requirement is to modify or 'transform' changed data before it reaches its final destination. Two simple examples:

-- Combine two columns of source data into a single value for a column at the target.
-- Change a numeric code at the source into a descriptive string for the target.

Many other transformations are possible, including those that are more sophisticat… Continue

A Look at Distributing Data

Once you get past the simple case of copying changed data from one system to another, the next most common replication solution is data distribution. In this scenario, you distribute data from a central database to two or more databases, maybe even 100's, that are likely remote. An example is sending changes from a corporate headquarters to branch offices or retail locations. You may only need the data to flow one way - from a central database to others. Or, you may also need some data to flo

How Easy Is It to Set Up Cache Tables?

That question is almost always followed by "and can I set them up with scripts instead of the GUI?" The answer I give is yes, cache tables are very easy to set up and you can do it with scripts. The challenges are that (1) the documentation could be better and (2) a good sample is needed. I'm hoping a few pictures, a little text, and a small sample are all that's needed to improve the situation :)

So, What's a Cache Table?

2009's 10 Most Popular Replication Features for DB2

While preparing for what's likely to be coming my way in 2010, I thought about the topics I spent the most time on in 2009. I eventually wound up with a list of 10 that I felt were the most popular with the sales teams and customers I worked with. I thought I had a pretty good list :) so I emailed it to my collegues to get their impression. Naturally, everyone had at least a slightly different list and, when there was overlap, everyone wanted a slightly different order. Go figure.

So... what yo… Continue

Hi Dave, thanks for the great info!
One question, how similar is this to InfoSphere Change Data Capture for Oracle Replication, or is it the same thing?
